Stonebridge Dressage Clinic

It was a great day of learning and fun for auditors and participants on July 23, 2016 at the Stoneridge Dressage Clinic sponsored by BB&T Insurance and Seminole Feed.

There was large group of auditors and participants. They enjoyed the shade from the covered arena, had a nice lunch, and were able to take home horse treats from Seminole Feed. Stoneridge farm was the perfect facility to host a clinic. There is lots of space, cool upstairs event space for escaping the heat and a large covered arena. Clinicians were Chimene Evans, owner of Stoneridge Equestrian located in Liberty, SC and David Donnelly of French Light Dressage based in Upstate South Carolina.

David Donnelly of French Light Dressage was a clinician and speaker. David brings over 30 years of experience training classical and competitive dressage horses and riders start through all movements of the Haute Ecole or Grand Prix. He was a fantastic speaker from the back of the horse, explaining why he was doing certain things at specific times. From the ground, during lessons, he pushed the riders beyond their current comfort level with their horse, creating a new and exciting relationship to build on. He was also the educational speaker for the event and provided the auditors and participants with a basic understanding of dressage plus descriptions of movements and new terminology.

David's approach (using the French method) was different than most riders were used to (German method), so it was very interesting to watch. During this clinic he focused on Free Forward Reactivity with a lot of the participants. Meaning not how fast a horse moves forward, but how quickly and completely he responds to the rider’s cues like leg, seat, whip, voice, etc.

Stoneridge Equestrian is a full service boarding facility that caters to the serious competitor and also the casual pleasure rider. The care and enjoyment of the horse and rider are a priority. While there is a focus on the Eventing, Hunter/Jumper, Equitation and Dressage disciplines, all breeds and types of riding are welcome. Stoneridge Equestrian offers an enjoyable atmosphere both for horse and rider. More clinics will be scheduled later this year. More information can be found at www. stoneridgeeq.net.
