Savannah, TN – The Miss Rodeo Tennessee Association has announced the crowning of the 2016-2017 Miss Teen Rodeo Tennessee Reagan Caen of Columbia, TN, during a coronation ceremony on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at the Buckin’ on the River rodeo in Savannah, TN, sanctioned by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association. Also during the ceremony, Simone Taylor, 19, of Lexington, TN, was named Miss Rodeo Tennessee 2017. She will begin her reign in January 2017.
Caen, a freshman at Spring Hill High School in Spring Hill, TN, is following in the steps of her older sister Sydney Caen, who served as the 2011 Miss Teen Rodeo Tennessee. They are the daughters of Morris and Wendy Caen of Columbia, TN, and the granddaughters of Carrie and Sonny Nivens and Connie and Perry Lambert, all of Fayette County, TN, and Dale and Richard Caen of Germantown, TN.
Both Caen sisters have been competing in rodeo and rodeo queen pageants for several years. The younger Caen previously held the title of Rodeo of the Mid-South Princess in 2012. Currently, she competes in the rodeo events of barrel racing, pole bending and goat tying with the Southern Tennessee All-Star Rodeo Association. She also enjoys trail riding her horse.
During her high school years, Caen plans to focus on theater arts. Looking ahead to college, she hopes to study fashion design.In addition to rodeo, Caen also enjoys participating on a competitive cheerleading team. She loves to bake and binge watch Netflix, communicating on Instagram, working out with a fitness trainer, and designing and sewing clothes.
“Being Miss Teen Rodeo Tennessee has been a dream of mine since my sister held the title in 2011,” said Caen. “I loved watching her work at the rodeos, and longed for the day when I would be able to help too.”
“We’re excited to have Reagan serve as our Miss Teen Rodeo Tennessee this year,” said Director Sue Lynn Perry of Millington, TN.“She is a very hard worker and takes her job as a rodeo queen very seriously.”
As part of the Miss Rodeo America Pageant, Miss Rodeo Tennessee and Miss Teen Rodeo Tennessee are ambassadors for the rodeo industry, handling pre-event publicity such as media interviews and community interaction such as visiting school children or civic groups. They spend a year traveling throughout the state to promote the sport. Often they can be seen carrying the America flag horseback for the national anthem or carrying sponsor flags horseback during the rodeo.
Contestants are judged in the areas of horsemanship, personality, appearance and rodeo knowledge.
Caen was crowned by Miss Rodeo Tennessee 2016 Kelsey Hawkins, 21, of Madisonville, TN. Hawkins has been serving as Tennessee’s official rodeo ambassador since her reign began in January. She will represent the state of Tennessee at the Miss Rodeo America Pageant this December in Las Vegas.
