The fox hunting and equine world lost a great sportsman and one of its most enthusiastic supporters with the passing of Dr. David (Bruce) P’Pool, ex-MFH of Hillsboro Hounds, on October 5, 2015. Bruce was Jt. Master of Hillsboro Hounds from 1990 to 2011. He was a fine horseman, generous with his time, his horses, and his gifts. His enthusiasm for fox hunting was contagious and his eyes would light up and sparkle when he talked about a particular day of sport.
Bruce was born May 28, 1933 in Nashville, Tennessee where he practiced medicine and lived most of his life. He was a graduate of Vanderbilt University and The University of Tennessee Medical School. He was also a US Army Veteran.
Bruce’s love for horses and foxhunting carried over to young riders, as he became a board member of Middle Tennessee Pony Club and was involved with the Saddle Up !therapeutic riding program.
He was a member first Presbyterian Church of Nashville, the Exchange Club of Nashville, and Alumni Council of McCallie School, as well as board a member for Friends of Warner Parks.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Gibson P'Pool (Shocky) and his two daughters, Elizabeth P'Pool Coble (Les) and Martha P'Pool Shy (Robert), and five grandchildren: Olivia Reid Coble, Stella Claire Coble, Leslie Davis Coble, Jr., Charlotte Marie Shy and Genevieve Elizabeth Shy.
