The highlight of the Germantown Charity Horse Show is the $25,000 Grand Prix of Germantown. Michael Tokaruk, having won the Grand Prix in 2012 and 2011, was back to try for a third time in a row win. That didn’t happen, but he nonetheless put in a stylish performance on Matilda, who had placed fourth in the Welcome Stake on Wednesday evening.
After jumping one round over a course of at least 16 fences ranging from 4’6”-5’3” in height, with spreads from 4-6’, only a handful of competitors had clean rounds to enter the jumpoff.
Going into the jumpoff, Christian Heineking had a trifecta going, with three horses qualified. He pulled off a one-two finish in the Grand Prix of Germantown: first with Selena, second with River of Dreams! His other horse NKH Quanto, the horse with the first clean round to qualify for the jumpoff, finished fourth. Christian did quite well, taking home the $7,500 first prize, the $5,500 second prize, and the $2,000 third prize.
Danielle Grice and Boysterous turned in a well organized performance with Boysterous, jumping well and having the third clean round to qualify for the jumpoff. However, they had one rail down in the jumpoff and finished third overall, claiming the $3,250 third place prize.
Frank Owens had the second clean round on Capricello 2, but dropped to sixth after the jumpoff. Owens didn’t go home empty-handed, taking the $1,250 sixth place prize.
Christian Heineking cleaned up the rest of the prizes with his seventh place horse, A&A Charly, earning the $1,000 seventh place prize and in eighth place with Chakira, taking another $750 in prize money.
