Alissa Heeren took part in the three day equestrian competition at the River Glen Horse Trials in New Market, Tennessee, on August 4-5.She participated in the Open Beginner Novice Division, riding all three phases: dressage, cross country, and show jumping. The August event was attended by approximately 160 riders, who bravely endured temperatures that reached 106 degrees F.
Her horse, “Caught You Looking,” aka Blitz, appeared to relish the hot air as he scored double clear rounds on both the cross country and stadium.The twelve-year-old Morgan/Connemara cross pony was a ball of energy during the dressage test, making for a fun ride, to say the least.
After the 14 riders finished the course, the judges tallied their scores. Alissa and Blitz were awarded fifth place honors.
Alissa is a 20-year-old college student at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, TN, where she is majoring in Aviation and Dance. She has a Private Pilots License and has been performing ballet for 15 years. She is a member of the West Tennessee Pony Club and resides in Williston, Tennessee.
