Kim Gentry and her horse Leonardo were invited, for the second year in a row, to this year's USEF/Markel Young Horse Championships. Her student, Viki Meyers, and Gold Flash were the first alternates for the 4 year old championships. Championships were held at Lamplight Equestrian Center, Wayne, IL, August 23-26, 2012. Judges for the final were FEI judges Axel Steiner, Jane Weatherwax and Marianne Ludwig.
Kim and Leo went in with a qualifying score of 8.0, and she had exciting news after the event: “We were 8th in the final and 9th overall in the FEI 5 year old championships!” She was also very pleased with Axel Steiner's comments at the end of her test:
“The highlight of the test was clearly the submission. The horse was really nicely with the rider throughout the test. The simple changes were well performed. The horse is very well trained according to the training scale, was well ridden and beautifully presented in the test.”
The Markel/USEF Young Horse Dressage Program (for 4-, 5-, and 6-year-old horses) promotes the importance of selective breeding and correct training of horses in the United States, and encourages the properly structured development of young dressage prospects through the training scale.
