Sarah Morris, riding with Jason Schnelle at Autumn Chase Farm south of Collierville, TN, is theMidwest Region 2011High Point Adult Amateur Rider. Sarah scored the honor riding Jason’s horse Ramazotti, aka Zotti around the barn. “Zotti is fun to ride. He has such a nice big stride, he can lope around the course; the lines are easy for him,” Sarah said.
Sarah competed in the 3-feet Hunter Debry, which is composed of longer hunter courses with more natural jumps, simulating fences in the hunt field; has options on jumps, more difficult turns, and longer strides between jumps. “The judges like to see a nice gallop,” Jason added. Zotti is ideally suited for these types of courses. “He excels at open lines and tight turns,” and seems to like the challenge, Sarah said. Zotti is a 13-year-old Hanoverian. David also shows him and he was 2011 WTHJA Regular Comformation Hunter Champion.
Sarah either won or placed second in all the Hunter Derby shows she entered. “Points are based on the number of entries in the classes,” she explained, and the classes she entered had large numbers of entries.
Sarah has just graduated from Ole Miss with a major in biology and double minors in Spanish and chemistry. She has applied to veterinary school at Auburn, MS State, and UT, and is waiting to hear which one(s) accepted her. “She did all that in 3 ½ years,” Jason said. “She’s a very hard worker, which shows up in everything she does.”
Next on her agenda are shows in Gulfport – the Winter Circuit in February and March. She plans to compete in more Hunter Derby shows when they are available. Sarah also has a young horse she’s bringing along and she just bought back her Junior horse.
