Artist’s Profile: Sunny Palmisano By Nancy Brannon “I can’t remember not painting,” Sunny Palmisano said, trying to recall when her career as an artist began. “But I am not formally trained.” Judging from the quality of her watercolor paintings, formal training is evidently not needed. She paints portraits from photographs of horses, dogs, and “just about anything is fair game for a painting!” she added. If you have a photo of a special pet or loved one, or a favorite scene, send it to her and chances are she’ll create a painting that will leave you vastly impressed with her natural talents. Sunny’s other interest is riding her 7 year old, 17.1 hand Friesian Sport Horse “Renoir” (also the name of her favorite artist). Renoir showed First Level this year and is working Second Level. Sunny is a First Level working Second Level dressage rider, and she recently visited Cranesfield Farm for additional training and instruction from Peggy Gaboury. Sunny lives and paints in Madison, MS. She does commission portraits by photographs, and also paints and glazes floor tiles and backsplash tiles. Her favorite subjects are horses, either alone or with their riders, dogs, cats, flowers, whimsical scenes, children and cars. Growing up in the rural Midwest influenced her art. “My subjects are those things that give me joy in my life: my garden, long weekends boating and observations from the boat's deck, my pets and their antics, and the views I see from the back of my horse riding the trails of Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, and now the beautiful state of Mississippi,” she wrote. Watercolor is her medium of choice “because it allows for much more delicate detail than any other medium.
