Helmet Awareness Day
Stresses benefits of wearing helmets
The riders4helmets campaign, operated by helmet advocate Jeri Bryant, organized National Helmet Awareness Day on July 10th, 2010. The event was created to support the riders4helmets national campaign, designed to educate equestrians on the benefits of wearing helmets. It was supported by SUCCEED® and endorsed by the United States Equestrian Federation (USEF), the United States Hunter Jumper Association (USHJA), United States Eventing Association (USEA), and the United States Dressage Federation (USDF).
In addition to these organizations, The FEI Dressage Committee strongly recommends that all riders should wear properly fastened safety helmets when training and in pre-competition warm-ups at all international Dressage shows. Riders still have the choice of wearing protective headgear in the competition arena.
Riders4helmets teamed with leading helmet manufacturers to offer discounts on helmets to equestrians via participating retailers nationwide on this day. Helmet brands included in the promotion were: Troxel, Charles Owen, GPA and Aegis (Devon-Aire), Ovation, Tipperary, IRH and Antares-Sellier France.
Troxel, maker of ASTM/SEI-certified equestrian helmets, announced its participation in the event. “National Helmet Awareness Day is a significant event that Troxel is proud to support,” said Shay Timms, CEO of Troxel. “Equestrian athletes are moving to overcome resistance to protective helmets, and National Helmet Awareness Day is a significant step forward in helmet acceptance.”
