Robert’s Rodeo Cowboys, Bulls & BBQ By Ernie Roberts October 10th brought together cowboys of yesterday and today for bulls, good food, and cowboy church at the Cowboy for Christ arena in Friendship, TN (owned by Carol and Ernie Roberts). Top bull riders from the Tennessee High School Rodeo Association and old time bull riders had a fun-filled afternoon of Jack Pot competition. About 250 people came on a beautiful Sunday afternoon to watch the bull riding and enjoy the barbeque. Winning the High School event and buckle was Cody Turner of Alamo, TN. Colby Crisswell of Trenton, TN and Garret Fulks of Alabama split the second and third places, and Matt Smith of Kenton, TN finished fourth. In all, eighteen Tennessee High School Rodeo boys from the southeast circuit competed.The Old Timers bull riding (ages 49-53) event drew a variety of cowboys, some who could still ride fairly well and some who just thought they could. Harold Fenton of Newbern, TN scored a whopping 80 points to win first place, which proves he could still ride those bulls. Eddie Burrow of Braden, TN, a past High School Rodeo Champion, placed second. Long-time bull rider and past PRCA Circuit Champion Eddie Halfacre won third. Southeast Circuit PRCA bull rider David McMinn came from Albuquerque, NM to ride in the Old Timers event. Colt Turner of Ripley, TN won the Junior section and Denean Adams of Eaton won the Girls division. J Mark Wilson of the Circle Cross Cowboy Church and Mark Merrit, Cowboy Church minister from Rossville, TN, conducted Cowboy Church. We thank everyone who helped, especially the stock contractors for supplying great stock.
