WTHJA Hospitality Circuit Last two shows of 2009 By Nancy Brannon The West Tennessee Hunter Jumper Association, in conjunction with Alderwood Shows, held the last two shows of the 2009 Hospitality Circuit at the Germantown Charity Horse Show arena. Memphis in May was April 29 to May 3 and the Memphis Blues Classic was May 6 to May 10. All shows were USEF “AA” rated and USEF 2 Jumper rated. Memphis in May was described as a “small show” by WTHJA President Ann Ford Upshaw, with about 120 entries. The cool rain all day Saturday made conditions less than desirable, but “a lot of people trudged straight through and showed,” she said. The rain did require some schedule modifications to help exhibitors. Friday and Saturday nights are “hospitality nights” at the shows, with food and beverages sponsored by staff and trainers from area barns. A new feature of the shows is “Ask the Judge” clinics, which are the brainchild of Blake Alder. On Thursday afternoon, exhibitors have an opportunity to talk with the judges and ask about what they look for in the ring. This helps competitors improve their showings. Upshaw said the clinics they have held so far “have been well attended and attendance is increasing.” Show results can be found at: www.horseshowsonline.com/Shows.aspx.
