Mid-South Quarter Horse Breeders Futurity Show October 24-26 at the Agricenter Show Place Arena The Mid-South Quarter Horse Breeders hosted their 26th annual Futurity and American Quarter Horse Association Show October 24-26 at the Agricenter Show Place Arena. Entries were up from last year, Treasurer Penny Robertson said. “We had about 120 to 130 entries in our Futurity, up from 99 last year. We paid out about $17,000 in prize money to class winners and $1,000 each to two auction stallions.” The show pays prize money to the top 5 place winners in futurity classes. In addition to money, the show gives other awards to winners. “We gave away a saddle in the walk-trot class, donated by Cowboy Corner and owner Charles Tackett. We gave out 40 belt buckles, which were sponsored by various trainers, tack stores, and people. James Moody, who showed in the futurity for many years, died the day before the show started. So we gave a belt buckle in his memory. Every entry in the Futurity got a gift. We had a lot of wonderful volunteer help, so the show went very smoothly. We had a wonderful show!” Louis Hufnagle of Tennesssee was the judge for Friday’s classes. Margo Ball of Colorado and Scott Mitchell of Missouri were the judges for Saturday’s and Sunday’s classes. Dianne Higgs, who was the show’s chairwoman for 17 years, resigned her position in August and since then, Treasurer Penny Robertson, along with the six Board members, has stepped in to “make the show go on.” Penny said, “I would like to thank Dianne for doing such a good job for the past 17 years. She really did a wonderful job organizing the show.” Penny has been asked by the Board to take the leadership role, but responded, “Let me get the show behind me and then I’ll think about it.”
