Milan Saddle Club World Flag Race/Emily Prince Memorial Barrel Race Held In Tennessee On July 21, The Milan Saddle Club held their 4th annual World Flag Race along with the second annual Emily Prince Memorial Barrel Race. This year the club had over 550 entries, paying out over $16,000 in cash and prizes. The show started Saturday at 4 pm, and the last horse ran about 8:30 am Sunday. World Flag Race Champion was Ronnie Washburn of Lexington, TN. Other winners in this event were: Dwight Hendrix, TN; Terry Betts, TN; Johnny Dugger, KY; Dan Griffith, II; Tammy Wunder, II; Tony Schultz, IN; Joe Shultz, IN; Buddy McCory, IN; Chris Gibbons, TN; Jason Swaw, TN; Crain Hagen, IN; Chance Lewis, TN. Dwight Hendrix and Ronnie Washburn helped raise money to buy the saddle and other awards that were given away in this event. Adult Barrels I-D champion was Ashley Edelen of Huntingdon, TN. 3-D was Sherri Cupples, Dyer, TN and 4-D was Christie Gore of Lexington, TN. Youth Barrel Champions were I-D—Amber Jo Heathcott, Newburn, TN; 2-D—Katie Brown, Waverly, TN; 3-D—Brittney Bogard, Murray, KY and 4-D—MeKenna Cox, McKenzie, TN. Pole Bending Champions were I-D—Josh Morton, Jackson, TN and 2-D—Brooke Grace, Hopkinsville, KY. There were over 150 entries in the Emily Prince Memorial Barrel Race. The 2006 Champion was Ashley Townsend of Atwood, TN. Another division Champion was Holly Rice of TN. The Championship Saddle for this event was sponsored by Johnny Dugger, Tony Edwards, Dwight Hendrix, and Ronnie Washburn. The last event was the Speed Race and the Champion was Joe Schultz from IN. Joe received a saddle sponsored by David Prince. In addition to the Championship Show, Milan Saddle Club also hosted a warm up show at the Milan City Park July 20. For a show of this size to be a success it takes months of preparation. Because the contestants, spectators, family, and friends enjoy attending this show every year, most of them help by raising and donating money and helping the Milan Saddle Club with the tasks it takes to host such a major event. Billy and Beverly Truitt from Centerville, TN raised most of the money needed to purchase the blankets given to each division Champion. The club sends thanks to all.
