15th Annual Volunteer Horse Fair, March 19-21 The 15th Annual Volunteer Horse Fair will be held at Miller Coliseum in Murfreesboro, March 19-21. Price of admission on Friday and Saturday is $10; Sunday admission is $5. A weekend pass is $20. Children 6 and under are admitted free. Friday and Saturday events begin at 9 a.m.; Sunday's events begin with a non-denominational worship service at 9 a.m. The Volunteer Horse Fair is conducted by the Tennessee Horse Council, a not-for-profit organization representing all equine breeds and disciplines. Last year's event drew more than 10,000 equine enthusiasts from Tennessee and surrounding states. The fair features three days of equine entertainment, educational seminars, demonstrations, one of the largest equine tradeshows in the Southeast, breed presentations, contests and more. This year's fair includes such top clinicians as Josh Lyons; seminars on the problems and care of equine lameness and on foaling problems; a session on preparing your equine's mane and tail for the show ring; and classes on topics ranging from choosing the best fence to choosing the right hay for your equines' needs. During Saturday's "Mane Performance", Jerry Thornton will perform rope tricks, trick riding and "Roman" riding, the Silver Star Vaulters will perform gymnastics on horseback, and the Huntsville Heatwaves will demonstrate "polocrosse," a fast-paced new equine sport described as a merger of traditional polo and lacrosse. Fair events include an all breed fun show; educational seminars; and, for those not yet ready to CD ride real equines, a stick-horse show complete with the crowning of Little Mr. and Miss Volunteer Horse Fair. Friday's events include the "All-Breed Fun Show". On Saturday, fairgoers also may attend a benefit chili cook-off for therapeutic riding programs and the popular stick horse contest. Sunday's program includes morning worship at the main arena at 9 a.m. led by Crystal Lyons, who will be on horseback. The worship service will be followed by a full afternoon of clinics, demonstrations and seminars. Breed and stallion presentations will take place each day. Spectators can also take advantage of shopping at Tennessee's largest equine trade fair, bid on unique equestrian items in a silent auction and enjoy Saturday's headline event, "The Mane Performance."
