Dr. Jennifer Dunlap Opens Practice
Dunlap Equine Services offering 24 hour ambulatory equine veterinary care will be opening in Somerville, Tenn. in the middle of August, 2003. Dunlap Equine Services is owned and operated by Jennifer Dunlap, DVM. Jennifer is a resident of Somerville, Tenn., and has been involved with horses for the last 20 years. She is the daughter of Bill and Becky Dunlap of Somerville.
Jennifer's ties to the West Tennessee horse community go back to her teenage years as a rider at Rose Marie Lawson's farm when the farm was still located in Germantown. Jennifer competed her horses in combined training and competed each year at the Longreen Horse Trials. Bunny O'Connell of Somerville, has been Jennifer's long term trainer since then.
With a goal of becoming an equine veterinarian and bringing her skills back to Fayette County, Jennifer applied and was accepted on early admission to Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine in Boston, Mass., following graduation from The University of Memphis. Jennifer was awarded the American College of Veterinary Surgeons Large Animal Surgery student award. Following graduation, Jennifer was accepted as a medical and surgical intern at Tufts, dividing her time between Tufts University and Massa-chusetts Equine. During her internship she received further training in equine neonatal care, routine health care and emergency and routine surgery including colic surgery and lameness evaluation and treatment.
Following her internship Jennifer was accepted to an American College of Vet-erinary Surgeons equine surgery residency at The University of Tennessee. During the three year program she received further training in emergency surgery including arthroscopic surgery. Jennifer was in charge of the surgery section during her third year, helping to train students and interns in lameness evaluation and surgery. She also served as emergency surgeon during her third year. She was awarded the Large Animal Resident of the Year Award both years it was awarded and has spoken at continuing education meetings and will be a speaker at the 2004 National meeting of the Student chapter of the American Veterinary Medical Association.
Jennifer is excited about being back in Somerville and providing equine veterinary care to West Tennessee. Her ambulatory service offers lameness evaluation with such state of the art diagnostics as computerized radiography, routine health care, 24 hour emergency service and on the farm surgery such as castrations and laceration repair.
