Excellence on Display at HITS Culpeper’s Cavalier Classic Hunter Derbies

The HITS Culpeper Cavalier Classic showcased a thrilling day of hunter derby competition on Thursday, July 11, highlighting exceptional talent and exquisite horsemanship across three exciting events.

In the $5,000 USHJA National Hunter Derby, Maria Shannon of Charlottesville, Virginia, rode Tillie Hall’s eight-year-old Belgian Warmblood stallion by Roc USA, Kaboom 18, to victory. Riley Hogan of Warrenton, Virginia, secured second place aboard Joseph D. Melnik’s six-year-old Hanoverian stallion by Verdi, Valandraud Clarion, while Samantha Wolfram of Middleburg, Virginia, took third riding Dale Miller’s seven-year-old Zangersheide mare (Comilfo Plus Z x Le Tot de Semilly), Calysta du Jérycass Z.

In the $750 The League Bit O’Straw Hunter Derby, presented by Marshall & Sterling, Meg Grymes of Richmond, Virginia, claimed the top spot with her 11-year-old Warmblood gelding by Cascadello I, Boulevardier.

Wrapping up the day’s events, the $500 The League Tiny Bit O’Straw Hunter Derby, presented by Marshall & Sterling, was won by Caroline Tufts of Warrenton, Virginia, With Patty Davis’s 18-year-old Welsh x Connemara mare by Gypsy Time Traveller, Gypsy Happy-Go-Lucky.
