A news release on February 17, 2018: Cases of equine herpes virus continue to pop-up throughout the country. On Feb. 16, 2018, the Pennsylvania Veterinary Laboratory in Harrisburg, Pa. confirmed the neurological form of the disease in a horse at a pleasure stable in Chester County, Pa., according to the Equine Disease Communication Center.
The horse showed hind limb ataxia but was stable as of Feb. 17. The premises has been quarantined by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, Bureau of Animal Health. All horses are being monitored for clinical signs of EHV-1 infection and biosecurity precautions have been implemented to prevent the spread of the virus off of the premises.
