Tennessee Spirit Show
By M. Rebecca Jones
Much brio was in order August 18 – 20, 2017 at the Tennessee Live Center in Murfreesboro, TN. The Tennessee Valley Paso Fino Horse Association’s (TVPFHA) AP/USEF recognized Volunteer Spirit Show hosted approximately 115 horses over the three-day show in a total of 329 classes offered. There were two judges each day making for two complete shows and double points awarded to competitors. The show was well attended with horses from Texas, to Georgia, to Pennsylvania as well as other states within the mid-south region.
One of the most interesting and entertaining features of the classes is when individual entries are asked to go across the “sounding board.” The well-timed cadence and rhythm of the Paso Finos are showcased as each makes its way across the board, eliciting cheers from the spectators. The winning entry in each class gets to once again take a trip across the board to showcase its winning form.
The TVPFHA also had several other activities for exhibitors to enjoy, such as a youth pizza party, horse soccer, a silent auction, and an exhibitor’s dinner complete with fajitas and all the fixings.
The TVPFHA was founded in 1983 and has approximately 100 members from several Southeastern states. The club is a network for those interested in showing, trail riding, and breeding their Paso Finos. The association also hosts educational clinics, and members participate in parades and recreational rides.
