On the last weekend in February – 24-26, 2017 – the ShowPlace arena was packed with barrel racers, vendors, and supporters of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The second annual Barrel Jam was a major fund raiser for St. Jude, taking in approximately $115,000 last year and, as of Saturday afternoon, had raised $73,295 this year. The $8,000 added money purse attracted riders from many states in the mid-south.

There were plenty of prizes for barrel racers, but also belt buckles for 22 successful St. Jude fundraisers, with congratulations from Ronald McDonald. There was a silent auction of donated items, a stallion auction, plus commemorative hats and T-shirts for sale – all adding to the money collected for St. Jude. There were vendors all around the arena with everything from saddles, saddle pads, bridles and breast collars to health products for horses, and their people. Fessler photography was on hand to capture everyone’s ride. See their photos at fesslerphotography.net.
