Hillside Trail Challenge

2016/12/04

By Lisa Sikkink

The local horse-enthusiast group, Women of the Horse (WOTH), co-hosted a Trail Challenge Competition on October 29, 2016 at Hillside Stables in Byhalia, MS. This is the first year that WOTH has participated in the Trail Challenge, but the WOTH-Hillside team provided a fun, safe, and successful event.

Theresa Hartwell and Terry Silver did an excellent job judging the wide variety of classes.  Traditional youth, adult, and open under saddle classes were offered, as well as in-hand classes. The in-hand classes are designed for those horse lovers who prefer to compete with their horse from the ground. “Not everyone has the confidence to ride in a trail challenge,” says PK Theobald of Hillside Stables. “If your horse is green, young, or you feel you might not yet have the skills to get through a course safely, then the in-hand class is for you.” The trail challenge also included paid practice sessions and an equine costume contest.

The all-day event provided a wide selection of amenities. The café offered a range of food, including burgers and hotdogs to salads and nachos. Stalls were available as well as trailer parking in the shade.

Show results can be found on Hillside Stables’ website, www.HillsideStables.wordpress.com. Next year’s event is set for Saturday, October 28, 2017.  You may contact Hillside at any time for more information – 901/857-7500.
